Wallace Resigns at W&J
Washington & Jefferson College head volleyball coach Fred Wallace resigned Friday after nine seasons. Wallace is leaving W&J to become the head volleyball and softball coach at Morrisville State College in New York.

BETHANY - It's a small world. Just ask Rick Carver. Carver, the longtime baseball coach at Bethany College, had some surprise visitors when teams arrived at the Bison's baseball field for this weekend's Edgar Martin Beast of the East Baseball Classic.

Meanwhile, Wadsworth signed to play football at Division III Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. Robbie is the youngest of three children to David and Jeanette Wadsworth. Robbie was born in Dunedin. His family has called Spring Hill home for 12-plus years. Robbie's older twin siblings — Kaitlin and Michael — graduated from NCT in 2009. Kaitlin was an outstanding softball player and graduated as the school's salutatorian.

Player Spotlight: Peter Riley
For rising Grove City sophomore Peter Riley, things do not always go by the book. Riley, a 2011 PIAA Class AA state champion singles from Loysburg, Pa., played four years of tennis at Tussey Mountain High School because Northen Bedford did not have a boys tennis program. Then, when it came time to pick a college, he took the unconventional road again, selecting Division III Grove City over Division I programs Villanova and Duquesne.

Ex-Allegheny Basketball Coach Clune Hired to Lead Thiel Women
Former Allegheny College men's basketball head coach Rob Clune has been hired to coach the Thiel women's team. Clune coached at Allegheny from 2002 to 2010. His teams went 96-112 and qualified for the NCAC tournament every season.

Pair of Trinity Players Select PAC Schools
Tyler Yocca and Taylor Davidson, both recent graduates of Trinity High School, will continue playing football for different schools in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Yocca will play for hometown Washington & Jefferson College. Davidson is headed to Saint Vincent.

St. Vincent Basketball Coach Mike Iuzzolino Leaves for Canisius College
St. Vincent College is looking to fill a vacancy on its men’s basketball staff after associate head coach Mike Iuzzolino resigned to take a position as director of basketball operations at Canisius College. The Buffalo, N.Y.-based Canisius is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and returns all five starters from a team that struggled last season to a 5-25 record (1-17 MAAC).

Jeanean Church has committed to run track for Coach Jeff Hill at Thomas More College. Jeanean was player of the year in the CMAC in volleyball, 1st team all league in basketball and the league champion in the high jump. She has a personal record in the high jump of 5’2 which is also the school record.

Truckee QB Pat Shaffer Receives Scholarship to Thiel College
Life as starting quarterback of the state champion Truckee High football team was good to Pat Shaffer. But while his high school career officially came to an end this past Friday — as he and seven other Wolverines competed in the Sertoma Classic all-star game — the recently graduated senior is far from ready to hang up the pads. Shaffer is taking his talents to Greenville, Penn., to play football at Thiel College, a Division III school in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Shaffer received a merit scholarship worth $15,000 a year.

Quince Orchard High School senior quarterback Lucas Bogart will play football at St. Vincent (Pa.) College, a NCAA Division III school, in the fall. Bogart, a reserve for the reigning Class 4A state runner-up, played in four games last fall when starter Billy Plante broke his hand.

Dorazio Dazzles
Sophomore right fielder Jenna Dorazio was Waynesburg University softball team's top hitter in 2012. A native of Cokeburg, and graduate of Bentworth, she batted .392 while playing in 28 of the Yellow Jacket's 36 games with 26 starts. Dorazio led the team with five home runs, six stolen bases, a .676 slugging percentage.

Hunterdon County 'College Corner' Athletes Update
Hunterdon Central High graduate Tim Irwin was named an Omicron Delta Kappa Sportsman of the Year at Grove City College as a senior. Irwin earned four letters as an outside linebacker for the Grove City (Pa.) football team and started each of the last three seasons. He finished second on the team last fall with 66 tackles, had an interception and two forced fumbles. He concluded his career by starting in 30 consecutive games.

Vargo, who has a cumulative grade-point average of nearly 3.60, will attend Washington & Jefferson in fall and major in history.
