2006 PAC Women's Tennis Preview
The Grove City Wolverines captured their 19th consecutive PAC Women's
Tennis Championship in 2005. The 2006 season will be exciting with the addition
of a very strong Saint Vincent team. The 2006 PAC Championships will be held at
the Pennbriar Fitness and Racquet Club in Erie, Pa., on Friday-Saturday,October
20-21.
BETHANY COLLEGE
Bethany College return only two women from the 2005 season. Senior Katie Erdy
will lead the junior Elise Gardner and freshman Ashley Current in
action this fall. This is the second season for Bison head coach Lisa Keylor.
Keylor coached the Bison to a 7-9 record in her first season at the helm, as the
Bison placed third at the PAC Championship last fall. Bethany begins play Saturday
September 9, at the Penn State- Behrend Invitational.
GROVE CITY COLLEGE
The Grove City women's tennis team will again be in prime
position to challenge for its 20th consecutive PAC Championship. The Wolverines
will be led by 2005 PAC Player of the Year and defending number one single
champion Kristin McNally and lone senior Lindsey Hosler. Head
coach Cathy Jacobs expects several freshmen to also compete for starting
positions this season. Grove City enters the season with six freshman on the
roster. The young, but
experienced Wolverines being the 2006 season Friday, September 1, at PAC rival
Waynesburg.
THOMAS MORE
Senior Emily Prescott highlights the 2006
Thomas More roster. Prescott won her third-place match in the number four
singles, earning the highest finish for a Thomas More player last year. Fellow
senior Whitney Reis will return after being the number one singles player
last year, finishing fourth at the PAC Championships. The Saints being
the 2006 season at Midway, Tuesday, September 5.
WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON
The 2006 Presidents tennis team is full of new faces. New head
coach Paul Skrok is starts his first season at Washington & Jefferson
with no seniors on the roster. Leading the Presidents in 2006 will be junior
Lisa McLaughlin. McLaughlin finished advanced to the final of the number six
single last season at the PAC Championship. The Presidents finished sixth last
year in Erie and will begin the 2006 season Saturday, September 9, at Juniata.
WAYNESBURG
The Yellow Jackets were runners up in the 2005 PAC Championship
and will be led in 2006 by senior Jenn Knight. Knight was 10-4 last
season at the number three singles and was the runner up at the PAC
Championship. Sophomore Laura Garcia will also look to build on a good
showing in 2005. Garcia finished as runner up in the number four single last
year at the PAC Championship, finishing the year at 10-4. Waynesburg opens the
season at home against Grove City, Friday, September 1.
WESTMINSTER
Westminster placed fourth in the PAC last year, but second-year
head coach Scott Renninger expects this year's team to be more
competitive. Four singles starters are back from last year's team that compiled
a 6-8 record. Senior Sara Belsito leads the group of returners
as the Titans' No. 1 singles player. Senior Dana Larson is back
at the No.2 singles spot where she finished third at the conference
championships. The Titans start the 2006 season hosting Saint Vincent, Friday,
September 1.
SAINT VINCENT
Saint Vincentl begins its first year competing in the PAC, and
will be led by sophomore Kim Meier. Meier went undefeated in the fall of
her freshman year, going 12-0 and earning all conference accolades in the
American Mideast Conference. Head coach Jim Bendel will lead the Bearcats
in the first year at Division III, and has a strong roster of 15 upperclassmen
to start PAC play this year. The Bearcats will start the 2006 season with their
first PAC match, playing at Westminster, Friday, September 1.
