Brody
Jackson, a Manchester High School graduate, scored a season-high 33
points for Bethany (W.Va.) College in a 107-105 overtime win over
Saint Vincent last week. Jackson is averaging 12.9 points, 4.1
assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot junior is making 42.4
percent of his 3-point shots and has made 39 of 43 free throws. His
play has helped Bethany to 14-5 record, 6-1 in the Presidents'
Athletic Conference.

Saints Humphrey Player of Week
Thomas More junior Kristen
Humphrey has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference player of
the week in women's basketball. The 5-foot-10 forward recorded her
first career double-double Saturday with 16 points and a career-high
10 rebounds in a victory over St. Vincent. For the week, she
averaged 14 points and nine rebounds as Thomas More went 2-0.

Koch Provides Knockout Punch
John Koch will likely become
the leading scorer in Washington & Jefferson College men's
basketball history when the Presidents play Wednesday night at
Waynesburg. The smooth-shooting senior swingman has scored in
a variety of ways -- long-range three-pointers, reckless drives to
the baskets and clutch free throws -- but none of Koch's 1,600-plus
points in a Presidents uniform, and none during his days at Plum
High School, was scored in more dramatic fashion than his final two
Saturday afternoon.

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Freshman forward Joe Testa came off the bench
to score a career-high 20 points and the Bethany College men’s
basketball team held off a late rally from Thiel (Pa.) College to
post a 75-72 victory in Greenville Saturday afternoon. The victory,
coupled with an 89-87 loss by Westminster (Pa.) College at
Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, puts the Bison alone in first
place in the PAC with a 14-5 overall record and a 6-1 league mark.

PAC Basketball Finals Slated for
Internet Television
WEXFORD, Pa. — For the first time ever, fans of the Presidents'
Athletic Conference will be able to watch the league's men's and
women's basketball championship games on "internet television." The
PAC announced recently it will provide free video webcasts of its
upcoming championship games Feb. 24 on the conference website at
www.pacathletics.org., thanks to the technology from TRZ
Communication Services in Kent.

0.7 seconds remaining, giving Washington & Jefferson an 89-87

Grove City Keeps Streak Alive, Defeats W&J
The
Washington & Jefferson men's basketball program just can't find a
way to win at Grove City. Ryan Gerber led a balanced Grove City
attack with 16 points Wednesday night as the Wolverines pulled away
in the second half and defeated W&J, 74-59, in a Presidents'
Athletic Conference game. It was W&J's 13th consecutive
regular-season loss at College Arena.

North Catholic graduate Katie Lewandowski was named
Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the
Week for the first week of the month. Lewandowski, a 5-4 senior
guard at Waynesburg College, joined the 1,000-point club for her
career on Jan. 6 in a 61-58 victory over Thiel.

Slowing Down, Winning More
The points are down but winning is up for the Westminster men's
basketball team, which is higher in the Presidents' Athletic
Conference than expected at the halfway point of the season. That's
not to say the Titans (11-6, 4-1 PAC) have scrapped all their old
ways. They've just tweaked things and are running and gunning in a

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Shaking off a cold start, the Westminster
Titans finally got things rolling during the final 25 minutes to
pull away for a 73-41 win over the Thiel Tomcats at the
Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia Wednesday night. "You have to give Thiel a
lot of credit for our slow start," said Westminster coach Rosanne
Scott. "They came out, got in our face, played aggressive defense
and that kind of took us out of our rhythm. We didn't score for I
don't know how long, but from where I was sitting, it seemed like

on the road after a frustrating loss to Grove City at home. On the
other hand for Thiel, it was one that appeared to be there for the
taking, but got away from the Tomcats as the Titans came from behind
for a 78-66 win Wednesday night at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Thomas More College
linebackers Mark Carlisle and Brad Steinmetz were named first-team
All-South region by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Carlisle, who is
a two-time All-American, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference
Most Valuable Player after leading the conference with 125 tackles,
which tied the school record. His final college tackle, a forced
fumble, secured Thomas More's victory over Mount St. Joseph in
Bridge Bowl XI. Carlisle added 8½ tackles for loss and an

keep Grove City women’s basketball player Katy McCready on the
sidelines for long. McCready returned from an ankle injury recently
and is faring well for the Lady Wolverines. On Wednesday, McCready

Bethany Streak Snapped
For the first time in more
than two seasons, the Bethany men’s basketball team suffered a loss
in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play, as visiting Westminster
(11-6 overall, 4-1 PAC) dealt the Bison (12-5, 5-1) a 96-82 defeat
at Hummel Field House on Saturday afternoon. The loss for the Bison
broke their 29-game winning streak over conference foes, which dated
back to Jan. 19, 2005, when they dropped a 66-64 decision at
Washington & Jefferson. It was also their first league defeat at
home since a 99-95 loss to Westminster on Feb. 21, 2004, a span of
17 games.

women’s basketball team won for the ninth time in its last 10 games,

Dobos, a senior from Meadville, blocked four shots to raise her
career total to 149 and her season total to 41, tops in the AMC. The

Saints Hire Hilvert as Head Coach
Thomas More College has hired
Jim Hilvert as the fourth head football coach in the program's
16-year history. Hilvert takes
over for Mike Hallett, who resigned Dec. 18 to take the head
coaching position at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio.
Hilvert was the defensive coordinator at
rival College of Mount St. Joseph. He spent seven seasons coaching
for the Mount, where the Lions made three consecutive trips to the
postseason. During his tenure at Mount St. Joseph, he coached the
conference's defensive player of the year in four straight seasons,
six All-North Region players and three All-Americans.

Westminster junior Emilee
Ackerman (Hempfield) was named the December Scholar-Athlete of the
Month by the Presidents' Athletic Conference on Jan. 10. Ackerman
averaged 18 points last month and shot nearly 60 percent from the

Familiar Figure Regains St.
Vincent AD Position
The new athletic director at
St. Vincent College knows his way around the office. He's the Rev.
Myron Kirsch, who previously had the job for more than two decades.
"Is it new and earth-shaking? The answer is certainly not," Kirsch
said Thursday. "I had the title from 1983 to late 2004, the
beginning of 2005. Then I got some white hair and I became senior
athletic administrator. Now, I'm going to be the athletic director
again."

Colleges Bide Time During
Transition
St. Vincent's men's and women's basketball teams shared a bus
ride to Thiel College on Wednesday to play that Presidents' Athletic
Conference school's teams, but the results won't register in the PAC
standings. Like Seton Hill in the AMC and WVIAC, St. Vincent shows
up at the bottom of the PAC standings, with the overall record and
an explanation that the teams aren't eligible to compete for the
playoffs or championship. Players are eligible for various

Carr Drives Grove City with Emotion, Heart
Shawn Carr didn’t say a word.
A scruff-faced guard for the Grove City College men’s basketball
team, Carr simply untucked his Crimson-colored jersey and walked
toward the Wolverines’ visiting bench after earning his fifth
personal foul and a technical foul at Westminster College on
Wednesday night. Although the Mohawk High graduate kept his mouth
shut as he walked off the court, his jaw began flapping rapidly once

the Titans. The Wolverines trailed 49-42 at the intermission, then
shot 76.2 percent from the field (16-of-21) in the second half. Ryan
Gibson scored 24 points to lead Grove City, while Ryan Gerber added
23. Shawn Carr finished with 15, while Craig Hallman had 12 and Clay
Hurley 10. Gibson also had 11 assists and Hallman added 10 rebounds.

Loomis Enjoying His Time at Thiel
Thiel College men’s
roundballers are enjoying modest success this season under
first-year head coach Tim Loomis. The Tomcats (2-2 PAC, 5-8 overall)
already have won as many games as last year’s edition. Loomis, who
spent several seasons at the collegiate level before coaching
Kennedy Catholic High the past five seasons — where his teams won 80
percent of their games and competed in a pair of PIAA title tilts —
said he enjoys being back on the bench in a campus setting.

Daemen 81, Geneva 65 - BUFFALO, N.Y. — Twenty-four turnovers and
a 34-26 deficit in rebounds combined to do in the Golden Tornadoes
in an American Mideast Conference North game. Geneva (8-10, 0-2 AMC-N)
was led by Byran Hill and Jermaine Ferguson, who scored 13 and 10
points, respectively. But, the Golden Tornadoes committed one more
turnover than made baskets, despite 49 percent shooting (23-of-47).

minutes to play. Geneva enjoyed a balanced offensive attack led by
Allyson Clarke's 17 points. Renee Rawding added 12 points and Jackie
Anthony and Lauren Uranker each chipped in with 10 points in the
victory. Point Park got a game high 23 points from Ashleigh Hays.
Head coach Ron Galbreath, who reached his 600th career victory last
Saturday night, was recognized for his accomplishments after

On the Rebound
The past
season and a half wasn't particularly busy or productive for
Washington & Jefferson College basketball player Adam Morrison. A
torn knee ligament, suffered in a summer league game, and subsequent
surgery forced Morrison to sit out all of last season. Then came
another setback, just as the Presidents began practice last October.
Morrison, who was anxious to make a good first impression on new W&J
coach Glen Gutierrez, was favoring the surgically repaired knee. The
result was tendinitis and atrophy in the thigh on his other leg. The
condition kept Morrison sidelined until last month.

Nabs PAC Player of the Week
Westminster junior guard Emilee Ackerman (Hempfield) was named the
Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after
claiming All-Tournament honors at the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout on
Dec. 18-19. Ackerman averaged 22.5 points in the tournament, where
she shot 69 percent from 3-point range and helped her team defeat
Concordia and Ursuline. She scored a season-high 26 points in the
victory over Concordia. She was also named the ECAC Division III
South Player of the Week.

Grove City’s Shawn Carr tallied 11 points in a 65-57 win over
Case Western Reserve in a nonconference matchup. He also pulled down

BETHANY — Case Western
Reserve University outscored the Bethany College women’s basketball
team 41-16 in the second half to pull away for a 67-38 win Wednesday
night, snapping the Bison’s winning streak at three games.
Both teams struggled in the
first half, as it was first game in 24 days for the Bison (4-6) and
the second game in 24 hours for the Spartans (8-3). The contest was
tied at 20 with three minutes to go before halftime before Case
scored six of the period’s final eight points to carry a 26-22 lead
into intermission.

Vincent Going Through a Transition
The Saint Vincent men's
basketball program embraces its past and looks forward to the future
but currently is in limbo. The Bearcats are in their first year as a
provisional member of the Division III Presidents' Athletic
Conference after being an NAIA power the past decade. They will play
a full home-and-away schedule against PAC teams, but their games
won't count in the standings.

Bethany Men's Basketball Falls on
the Road
PAINESVILLE — Bethany College
junior guard Brody Jackson fired in a career-high 31 points, but it
wasn’t enough to keep the Bison (8-4) from dropping a 79-74 road
decision at Lake Erie College (9-1), Wednesday night.
The first half was close
throughout, as Lake Erie led the majority of the opening 20 minutes
but never held bigger than a five-point advantage. Jackson knocked
down five treys in the first half, two which tied the game and two
which gave the Bison a one-point lead. His triple with 1:24 left
before intermission gave BC a 34-33 lead, but the Storm’s J.D.
Johnson canned a jumper with 49 seconds to go to send the hosts’
into the locker room with a 35-34 lead.

BEAVER FALLS , Pa. — Thiel College was blown out by a future
Presidents' Athletics Conference member. Geneva jumped out to a
quick 15-4 lead when Allyson Clarke completed a three-point play.
Geneva extended its lead to 39-23 at the break, and the Tomcats were
unable to cut the lead to under 10 points in the second half. Amber
Bodrick (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) led the Tomcats with 18 points
and nine rebounds. She also recorded three steals, two assists and
two blocks. Lauren Uranker led Geneva with 17 points off the bench.
Clarke and Renee Rawding each scored 15 points apiece. The Tomcats
(5-6, 0-1 PAC) return to action on Saturday when they travel to
Waynesburg College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

PITTSBURGH — Westminster earned its ninth win in 10 games.
Junior forward Terese Marszalek led all scorers with a career-high
24 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. Junior guard/forward
Emilee Ackerman and senior guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls)
also scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, to round out the
Westminster double-figure scorers. Ackerman also led the Titans with
eight rebounds and five steals. The game was tied on 10 occasions,
including a 32-32 stalemate at halftime, before the Titans surged to
a 10-point, 53-43 lead with 9:27 remaining. The Tartans could only
cut the deficit to six points before Westminster successfully
defending the lead to collect its fourth straight win. Ashley
Rothwell led the Tartans (5-5) with 18 points.

Geneva Finally Gets Its Shot at La
Salle
BEAVER FALLS - While the Geneva College football team will be
moving from the NAIA to NCAA Division III next season, the highlight
of the Golden Tornadoes' 2007 schedule is pair of non-conference
games against NCAA Division I-AA programs. Geneva will host La Salle
on Sept. 29 in the homecoming game at Reeves Stadium and visit St.
Peter's on Oct. 13 at Jersey City, N.J. LaSalle and St. Peter's both
play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
