W&J Golfer Relishes Division III Opportunity
Four years ago, I sat in my
house in West Hartford, Connecticut, with my dad going over my
college list. At the time, I did not have much of an athletic resume
– I played mostly junior varsity sports in high school. My varsity
letter was in golf, but my high school and junior career did not
have any major national tournament appearances, let alone any local
wins. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue to compete at the
college level because I thought it was time to really focus on my
education and prepare for my professional life. When I said that to
my dad, that I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue playing major
competitive golf, he shrugged and said off the cuff, “not many
people can say they played a sport in college and if you have that
opportunity you should take it for at least a year.”
