KNAPP NAMED HEAD SOFTBALL COACH AT CHATHAM (8/21/12)
Chatham University Director of Athletics Scott Koskoski announced Tuesday the hiring of Kelsey Knapp as Head Softball Coach. Knapp arrives at Chatham with nine years of softball experience both as a decorated former player and coach at both the Division I and Division III levels. 

 

GRAF HIRED AS PAC COORDINATOR OF OFFICIALS (7/16/12)
The PAC has hired Kathie Graf as the conference's coordinator of softball officials. Graf, a NCAA softball umpire with over 25 years of experience, is an active official in many of the nation’s top Division I softball-playing conferences and has considerable experience umpiring major conference championship tournaments. She currently works as a collegiate assigner at the NCAA Division II and III levels as well as the NAIA in Ohio, working with schools including Case Western Reserve University, Walsh University, Ursuline College and Notre Dame College. Graf has extensive experience working with and training amateur umpires throughout the country as a camp director and evaluator at many umpire-qualifying camps and started the Greater Akron Cleveland Umpire Association in 1999.

 

BETHANY'S VALLONE NAMED NFCA ALL-AMERICAN (5/18/12)

Bethany College junior softball outfielder Maria Vallone was named a Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Thursday night at the NCAA Division III national championship banquet in Salem, Va. Vallone, who became the fourth NFCA All-American in Bison softball history, posted a .470 batting average in 2012 (the second-highest in school history) and set a new Bethany single-season record with a .540 on-base percentage. She also led the PAC with 55 hits and 16 doubles, while also amassing four home runs, 26 RBI, 30 runs and 10 stolen bases.

 

2012 SPRING TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS  (5/18/12)

The PAC has announced the 2012 Spring PAC Team Sportsmanship Award winners. The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award program was started in an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). This is the fourth year the team sportsmanship awards will be given out in each of the 19 PAC-sponsored varsity sports.

 

MORELAND NAMED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR ATHLETE (5/17/12)
The PAC has announced that senior softball standout Kristen Moreland of Thiel College has been named PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for May 2012.

 

PAC PLACES FIVE ON 2012 ALL-REGION TEAMS (5/15/12)
Five PAC standouts have been honored with selection to the 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region teams. Thomas More senior 1B Brittany Wegman and Bethany junior OF Maria Vallone were each tabbed to the first team, while the Geneva duo of senior P Julie DiLonardo and junior 2B Christina Fuqua were tabbed to the second team and Thiel freshman C Danielle Massengill was a third team honoree.

 

GENEVA ELIMINATED FROM NCAA D-III REGIONAL (5/11/12)
Geneva softball suffered a pair of heartbreaking one-run losses at the 2012 NCAA D-III Softball Regional hosted by Alma College in Alma, Mich. The 2012 PAC Tournament champion GTs, seeded eighth, dropped a 6-5 decision to top seed Trine Thursday. Geneva was then eliminated Friday morning following a 3-2 setback to John Carroll to end the 2012 season at 30-19 overall.

 

2012 ALL-PAC TEAMS/AWARDS RELEASED (5/8/12)

The 2012 All-PAC softball teams have been released. 2012 PAC Tournament champion Geneva swept the two major awards, as senior P Julie DiLonardo was voted 2012 PAC Player of the Year, while 10th-year Golden Tornado head coach Van Zanic was tabbed as 2012 PAC Coach of the Year.

 

GENEVA TO FACE TRINE IN NCAA FIRST ROUND (5/7/12)
2012 PAC softball tournament champion Geneva will face Trine in the Alma, MI regional of the 2012 NCAA D-III Softball Tournament this week on Thursday (May 10) at 10 a.m. The Golden Tornadoes (30-17) of head coach Van Zanic, who captured their first-ever PAC softball crown Friday, are seeded eighth and face the region's top seed in Trine in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament. GENEVA CAPTURES FIRST-EVER PAC CROWN (5/4/12)
Fourth-seeded Geneva completed a perfect 3-0 run through the 2012 PAC Softball Tournament with another pitcher’s dual victory, a 1-0 title game victory over #2 Thiel giving the Golden Tornadoes and head coach Van Zanic their first-ever PAC softball championship and an automatic berth in next week’s NCAA Division III Championship. The GTs captured the title game despite being one-hit by Thiel senior P Kristen Moreland. GT senior P Julie DiLonardo was also outstanding in the circle, earning a complete-game three-hit shutout victory with no walks and eight strikeouts en route to 2012 PAC Tournament MVP honors. Earlier in the day, the Tomcats advances to the title matchup against the Golden Tornadoes by virtue of a 1-0 decision over #3 Westminster. GENEVA ADVANCES TO 2012 PAC TOURNEY FINAL (5/3/12)
Following a softball season with unprecedented parity in the PAC, it did not come as a total surprise that the first day of the 2012 PAC Softball Championship Tournament ended with the lower seed winning all four contests. At the end of the day, fourth-seeded Geneva stands one win away from its first-ever PAC title and NCAA Championship appearance after posting a pair of victories. The Golden Tornadoes opened the day by upending top-seeded Saint Vincent 3-1. After Westminster also advanced following a 10-3 first round decision against Thiel, Geneva advanced to the PAC championship game by virtue of a 2-1 victory over their archrival Titans. The final game of the day saw the host Bearcats eliminated, as Thiel overcame a 1-0 seventh-inning deficit for a 4-1 win. Friday, the second and final day of the tournament opens with a Westminster-Thiel rematch at 11 a.m., with the winner advancing to face Geneva for the 2012 PAC title at 1 p.m. If Geneva loses the 1 p.m. contest, the "if necessary" game will begin at 3 p.m.

 

SAINT VINCENT TO HOST 2012 PAC TOURNAMENT (4/29/12)
Saint Vincent College has earned the top seed and hosting rights for the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Championship Tournament. The four-team, double-elimination tournament will take place this Thursday-Friday, May 3-4, 2012 at the Saint Vincent softball field in Latrobe, Pa. The 2012 PAC Tournament Champion will earn the PAC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Softball Playoffs, beginning on May 11, 2012. The Bearcats of sixth-year head coach Nicole Hinerman, who still have one conference regular season doubleheader to play against Grove City Monday, have already clinched the 2012 PAC regular season softball crown by virtue of a 12-4 league mark. Saint Vincent will open play on Thursday (May 3) at 11 a.m. against #4 seed Geneva, followed by the other opening round contest between #2 Thiel and #3 Westminster at 1 p.m. The entire tournament schedule is now online.

The Bethany College softball team has been picked to capture the 2012 championship in the PAC, according to the 2012 PAC Preseason Softball poll, as voted on by PAC head softball coaches.

 

ADAMS HONORED AS SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (9/15/11)
The PAC has selected senior softball athlete Martha Adams of Geneva and senior football player Frank Gigler of Washington & Jefferson as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athletes of the Month for September 2011.

 

VALLONE, BAUGHMAN NAMED ECAC ALL-STARS (8/5/11)
A pair of PAC softball standouts have been honored with selection to the 2011 ECAC Division III South All-Star team. Bethany sophomore outfielder Maria Vallone was a first team selection, while Waynesburg senior pitcher/designated player Amanda Baughman was tabbed to the second team as a utility player.

 

PAC AWARDS TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP HONORS (5/26/11)
The PAC has announced the 2011 Spring PAC Team Sportsmanship Award winners. The sportsmanship awards are sponsored by the members of the PAC Student-Athlete-Advisory Council (SAAC), in an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among the conference teams. The SAAC is a committee comprised of student-athletes from each member institution assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.

 

PAC TEAMS CLOSE OUT 2011 POSTSEASON PLAY (5/13/11)
Both PAC softball teams participating in the postseason saw their respective seasons come to an end on May 13. PAC champion Bethany went 0-2 at the NCAA D-III Regional hosted by Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., falling to Baldwin-Wallace 6-3 on Thursday and Alma 11-0 on Friday. Despite being the #8 seed, Geneva went 2-2 to finish in fourth place at the eight-team NCCAA National Tournament in Botourt County, Va. The GTs opened play Thursday by shocking #1 seed and defending NAIA national champion Central Baptist 4-2. On Friday, Geneva fell to North Greenville 3-1 and topped Cedarville 4-3 before being eliminated by Central Baptist with an 8-0 loss.

 

SIX FROM PAC NAMED 2011 NFCA ALL-REGION (5/12/11)
Six PAC softball standouts have been honored with selection to the 2011 NCAA Division III All-Central Region teams, selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Leading the was was 2011 PAC champion Bethany with three selections, including both first team honorees in senior 3B Andrea Thomas and sophomore OF Maria Vallone. Senior 2B Chelsea Butler was a second team honoree, as was Thomas More senior P Samantha Ladenberger. Third team laurels went to Waynesburg senior P/DP Amanda Baughman and Thomas More junior 1B Brittany Wegman.

 

PAC ANNOUNCES 2011 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS (5/10/11)
The 2011 All-PAC Softball Teams have been announced. PAC champion Bethany swept the top two awards, as Bison senior 3B Andrea Thomas earned PAC Player of the Year honors while veteran BC mentor Jan Forsty was tabbed PAC Coach of the Year.

 

BETHANY TO FACE B-W IN ADRIAN REGIONAL (5/9/11)
The 2011 PAC softball champion Bethany Bison will travel to Adrian, Mich. this week to compete in the eighth-team NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by Adrian College. The Bison (29-14), seeded sixth in the double-elimination regional, will open play against third-seeded OAC champion Baldwin-Wallace beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. The regional champion will qualify to compete in the NCAA Division III College Softball World Series in Salem, Va., on May 20-24.

 

GENEVA TO PLAY IN NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNEY (5/8/11)
The Geneva softball program has been selected to compete in the NCCAA National Tournament, which begins Thursday (May 12) in Troutville, Va. The eighth-seeded Golden Tornadoes will battle seven scholarship programs for the title and will open play against top-seeded Central Baptist (52-4) in the first round.

 

BETHANY CAPTURES 2011 PAC SOFTBALL TITLE (5/7/11)

An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning by senior 2B and tournament Most Outstanding Player Chelsea Butler lifted Bethany to a 1-0 victory over Thomas More in the championship game of the 2011 PAC Softball Tournament. The top-seeded Bison, who allowed just one run in three tournament games, earned their conference-high 13th PAC softball crown. Earlier in the day, the second-seeded and defending PAC champion Saints advanced to the title tilt via a 5-4 victory which eliminated third seed Westminster from the tournament. Bethany has now earned the PAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament beginning next week.

 

BETHANY WINS PAIR ON DAY ONE OF PAC TOURNEY (5/6/11)
The top-seeded Bethany Bison posted a pair of wins to advance to the conference finals on day one of the 2011 PAC Softball Championship Tournament, hosted by the Bison in Bethany, W.Va. on May 6. BC opened the day with a 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Waynesburg. In game two, second-seeded Thomas More overcame a 2-0 deficit to posted a 5-4 decision over third seed Westminster. In the winner's bracket final, the Bison used a pair of stellar defensive plays in the sixth inning to save a 2-1 win over the Saints. Finally, the last game of the day saw Westminster eliminate Waynesburg from the double-elimination tournament with a 3-0 shutout. Saturday, Thomas More will face Westminster at 11 a.m. for the right to face Bethany for the 2011 PAC title at 1 p.m.

 

THIEL PAIR NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT II (5/5/11)
Two PAC student-athletes have been honored with selection to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District II College Division Softball teams. Both conference representatives hailed from Thiel College, as senior DP Danielle Dwyer (3.96, business & media communication) was a second team pick and senior C Melissa Rankin (3.59, communication sciences & disorders) was tabbed to the third team.

 

BETHANY EARNS TOP SEED FOR 2011 PAC TOURNEY (5/4/11)
Bethany College has earned the top seed and will serve as the host institution for the 2011 PAC Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for this Friday-Saturday (May 6-7) in Bethany, W.Va. The Bison (26-14), led by head coach Jan Forsty, finished the 2011 regular season with a 14-2 conference record. Bethany finished ahead of second seed and defending PAC champion Thomas More (24-11, 13-2 PAC) by virtue of a doubleheader sweep of the Saints on April 29. Third seed Westminster (18-14, 11-5 PAC) and fourth seed Waynesburg (16-14, 8-8 PAC) round out the participants in the double-elimination tournament, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

 

WC'S REDDINGER EARNS 400TH CAREER VICTORY (5/3/11)
Westminster College head softball coach Jan Reddinger won her 400th career game as a head coach in Monday's doubleheader sweep of visiting Washington & Jefferson. The Titans' 6-1 win in the first game clinched Reddinger's 400th win and the 8-0 shutout in the second game was win 401. After Monday's two wins, Reddinger owns a 20-year career record of 401-306-2 (.567), including a 345-245-2 (.584) record in her 15th year at Westminster. Reddinger previously coached at La Roche with a 56-61 (.479) record from 1992-96. Reddinger is one of 34 active NCAA Division III head coaches with at least 400 career wins and she is one of 51 all-time NCAA Division III coaches to reach the 400-win milestone.
