It happened so fast. The game was basically over before Grove City knew it.  The Wolverines came to Cameron Stadium Saturday with the hopes of upsetting No. 13 Washington & Jefferson. Grove City had confidence in its offense, especially with South Fayette graduate Andrew DiDonato, the school's all-time leading passer, leading the way.

Normally, football coaches don’t like to have open weeks early in the season.  Geneva College’s Geno DeMarco, on the other hand, did not mind having last week off in preparation for this Saturday’s President Athletic Conference opener against Thiel at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium n Greenville. The Golden Tornadoes were drubbed 48-6 at Salisbury in their previous game on Sept. 13.

Grove City is 2-1 and 1-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference after a 41-35 win against Bethany on Saturday. Running back Brian Mercer gained 126 yards on 29 carries, a 4.3 yards-per-rush average against the Bison. Mercer had four rushing touchdowns and caught a pass for 14 yards in the win.

Heller Appears To Have Made Final Run With Waynesburg
In just one short offseason, Robert Heller has gone from a football god to a ghost.  After enjoying the most successful freshman season in NCAA history, Heller is persona non grata in the Waynesburg University locker room.  Head coach Rick Shepas said after Saturday afternoon's 34-26 loss to Thomas More, that Heller "was not with the team."

Junior quarterback Trevor Stellman (Conner) threw three touchdown passes to lead Thomas More to a 34-26 victory against Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at John F. Wiley Stadium. TMC (1-1, 1-0) never trailed in the game as it led 20-0 after one quarter, 20-6 at halftime and 34-19 after three quarters. Waynesburg fell to 1-2 and 0-1.

In his time playing running back at Waynesburg Central High School, Billy Becker never got more than 22 carries in a game.  Playing behind Robert Heller, an NCAA Division III All-American running back, on the depth chart, Becker did not expect to see anywhere near 20 carries in a game this season. But after an ankle injury to Heller in the opening game of the season, Becker was thrust into the starting role for Waynesburg University in its second game of the year at Hanover, Ind.

The Titans redeemed themselves in a 6-2 victory against Allegheny after a 62-27 loss to Heidelberg -- the most points allowed by Westminster since an 88-0 loss to Pitt in 1926. Westminster allowed 209 yards against Allegheny after giving up 596 to Heidelberg.

Robert Heller's first year with the Waynesburg University football team couldn't have gone any better. By the time it concluded, Heller established an NCAA freshman rushing record with 2,176 yards and was on pace to eclipse college football's career rushing record.  So far, Heller's sophomore season isn't going as well.

History was made for Saint Vincent College this past Saturday, as the Bearcat football team captured its first win since the school resurrected the program prior to the 2007 campaign.  The Bearcats came back from a 20-3 deficit midway through the second quarter to defeat the Bison 23-22, using a strong running game and a stout defense.

It wasn’t exactly pretty, but for the Westminster Titan football team, it was a huge win after a disappointing loss to Heidelberg.  Facing its second disappointing loss in as many weeks, the Titans rallied in the final minutes of the game to pull out a 6-2 win over Allegheny College Saturday at Harold Burry Stadium.

Waynesburg University senior Megan Grover finished in third place Saturday at the Fisher Invitational, which was hosted by Westminster College. Grover covered the 5K course in a time of 23:37.8. Four Waynesburg teammates finish in the top 40, led by Janet Carson (26:28.9), who finished in 28th place. Freshman Amanda Zyzak finished in 29th place with a time of 26:32.1.
