Anderson Little Leaguers Make Good at Collegiate Level
ANDERSON TWP. – During the summer of 2001, a team called the Tigers took to the field to compete in the Anderson Township Little League.The squad, which consisted of 10- and 11-year old boys, took to the field with a passion to play the game and an eagerness to improve their skills. Fast forward to 2011 and the enthusiasm for which those boys played the game can still be seen by some of the club’s former players in the college ranks.

Jeffrey Swanson of Geneva will continue his education and athletic career at Thiel College. As a senior, Swanson scored 26 goals to lead the Cleveland district of the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association. He also assisted on four goals. For his efforts, Swanson was named first team All-Cleveland by the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.

Ryan Earns Conference Track MVP After Wins at PAC Meet
Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Scott Ryan (Williamsville/Williamsville East) finished off his spring track and field season by taking home some hardware. Ryan was named the NCAA Division III Presidents’ Athletic Conference Track Most Valuable Player after he recorded two victories and was a runner-up in one event at the PAC Championship meet at Bethany College.

Waynesburg's 1966 Title Team to be Honored at HOF Banquet
Many small colleges in Western Pennsylvania have rich football traditions. From Washington & Jefferson's 1922 Rose Bowl team to the recent success of California University in the NCAA Division II playoffs, small college football helps makes autumn Saturdays special in this part of the country. Of all the successful college football teams that Washington and Greene counties have produced, only one can claim a national championship. That was the 1966 Waynesburg College team that won the NAIA title under first-year head coach Carl DePasqua.

Track Triumph
Washington & Jefferson senior Michelle Wuenstel became the school's first track All-American with a sixth-place finish in the 400 at the NCAA Division III outdoor championships. The Keystone Oaks product posted a time of 56.67 seconds, less than two seconds behind the winner, Wartburg's Nevada Morrison.

Belle Vernon's Pavlic will play baseball at Waynesburg

ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP — Two years ago, when Mike Pavlic was a sophomore on Belle Vernon Area's baseball team, Leps coach Dan Palm wasn't expecting much. "When he was a sophomore, he didn't project as an everyday player," Palm recalled. "However, as a senior, he was an impact player and really huge part of this team. That says a lot about his work ethic." Palm said Pavlic's work ethic is a key reason why the senior first baseman/pitcher will be playing baseball next season at Waynesburg University.
