Westminster Lands Three Local Standouts
NEW CASTLE — Local
football recruiting took a favorable turn for the
Westminster College football team. The Titans, who boasted
just four county graduates on their roster last season,
inked three area products to this season’s recruiting class.
Westminster’s training camp opens Aug. 12.

to Local Swimmers
For the coaches on
the Harleysville and Nor-Gwyn swim teams, working with the
younger swimmers and divers has been its own reward. “This
is my favorite summer job ever — it’s not even a job. I love
coming here every day,” said C.J. Corcoran, one of the
assistant coaches for the Harleysville Stingrays.

Washington &
Jefferson College's football team was ranked 16th in The
Sporting News' recently released NCAA Division III Top 25
preseason poll. In addition, W&J's home game against Thomas
More College on Sept. 24 was listed as one of the top nine
games to watch nationally.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. –
Westminster College head football coach Jeff Hand, Thursday,
announced the team’s 2011 recruiting class. The following
student-athletes plan to attend Westminster in the fall and
play football. The team’s training camp begins Aug. 12.

The St. Vincent
women's basketball team was ranked 24th in the final Women's
Basketball Coaches' Association Academic NCAA Division III
Top 25 for the 2010-11 school year.

Brossart Volleyballer Heads
to TMC
ALEXANDRIA – Pennie
Wiseman had tryouts for her Bishop Brossart High School
volleyball team July 15. Her best player from the 2010
season was there, but only as a helper and not an active
player. Felicity Britt will take her talents to Thomas More
College this fall after completing an outstanding career at
Brossart and graduating in 2011. Britt will be part of the
Saints volleyball program.

consecutive Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer
Championship last November by defeating Westminster
(Pennsylvania) in front of a packed house on the Presidents’

to NABC Honors Court

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today
(Monday, July 11, 2011) announced that Thomas More College
men's basketball student-athletes Robert Wilson (Tipp City,
Ohio/Tippecanoe), Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County),
Dalton O'Brien (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) and Daniel
Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) were named to the
2010-2011 NABC Honors Court.

Local Players Headed to Saint
Vincent
Saint Vincent College is bringing in 65 new football players
for the 2011 season. Three of them have local ties.
Canon-McMillan's Matt Duffey and West Greene's Dillon Main
both are wide receivers recruits, while Scenery Hill
resident and Bishop Canevin graduate Travis Lohr will play
running back.

Dragons' Keefer, Colbert Will
Play at Waynesburg
Eric Keefer made some
unique contributions to the Central High School football
team last fall ... So did Keefer's Central teammate, two-way
starting tackle Jeramy Colbert, whose leadership, size and
strength at 6-foot-3, 285 pounds gave the Scarlet Dragons a
formidable force in the trenches. Both Keefer and Colbert
have picked Division III Waynesburg University to further
their football careers at the college level.

He's Still a Tennis Champion
at 76
Larry Solomon of Farmington Hills has played tennis nearly
his entire life, and he can still swing a mean racket at age
76. He and Tom Fisher won the 75-and-over doubles tournament
in the recent Midwest Super Senior Clay Court Championships
at the Detroit Tennis & Squash Club ... While a student at
Wayne State University, he and his brother won the
Presidents Athletic Conference doubles title in the mid
’50s.
